LSL recently caught up with SVT and got the latest on his preparations for the upcoming season.
LSL: What did you do this offseason to get ready for this year?
SVT: Since my knee was healthy from last year, I have been able to run and condition and do all the things to get my body ready for the year. I feel healthier than ever and have been working offensively on facing up because that’s what Coach P wants all the 4s and 5s to do this year. So I’ve been trying to get better around the basket.
LSL: How was it this summer being a national champion and how where you received in the city?
SVT: This is my fifth year here and it’s like a while different world. Everyone knows who you are and recognizes you; everywhere I go people are like ‘oh my gosh, it’s Stephen Van Treese, let me take a picture’. It’s really cool, and obviously it will calm down, but the city really loves us and like I said it’s been really cool. You can’t really hide when you’re out in public.
LSL: You talked about facing up, what do you expect from yourself this year?
SVT: I want to have stats similar to the ones I had when Gorgui was absent, excpet I want to put more points on the board. That’s what I want to do this year.
LSL: Who has impressed you the most out of the newcomers so far this year in practice?
SVT: I really like Terry Rozier’s game. He’s very level headed, he’s very athletic. He doesn’t play like most freshman. He doesn’t let a lot of things get to him and he goes out and continues to work hard.
LSL: why do you think you guys can repeat this year?
SVT: We have the same formula set in place and we know what it takes. We have a lot of the guys returning and a lot of weapons if not more than last year and I think we’re more athletic.
