Sunday Morning Coffee: More Conference Realignment Chatter

Posted on May 13 2012 - 11:49am by Ethan Moore

Yesterday, Florida State’s BOT Chair Andy Haggard raised some eyebrows nationally when he blasted the ACC’s new TV deal, saying the league favors UNC and Duke too much.  He also mentioned that the school should talk to the Big 12 specifically, if they want to talk.  Here’s a rundown of how Louisville’s Big 12 puzzle could be altered.

*UofL and FSU to the Big 12?

*FSU isn’t happy with the ACC.

*More rumblings that FSU could be interested in the Big 12.

*How the Big East leadership failed.

But the latest blows wounded the Big East to its core. Founding members Pittsburgh, Syracuse and West Virginia have fled – the Panthers and Orange to the ACC and the Mountaineers to the Big 12. Filling gaps with a mishmash of geographically nonsensical partners has given the Big East needed inventory but further diluted its identity.

Whatever the Big East is now, it doesn’t resemble the league Dave Gavitt built and Tranghese shepherded.
