The second recruiting weekend under Coach Petrino has netted a new and very important commitment. Massive 6’8, 315 lb. OL Kelby Johnson committed to UofL before returning to New York today. Johnson, who will have two years of eligibility at UofL, played this past season at ASA College. He also saw action as a true freshman at Virginia before he transferred. Johnson picked Louisville over offers from Ole Miss, Purdue, Kansas, and others. This prospect will get the chance to start immediately as his size and ACC experience will likely give him a decided advantage on his competition. (View his highlight tapes here.) With his commitment, UofL’s class is currently ranked 46th nationally and 10th in the ACC according to 247sports.
Here’s a latest on the current class. UofL has a total of 18 commitments, including the three early 3-star enrollees Cameron Polk, L.J. Scott, and Trevon Young. Out of the 15 remaining commitments, there are a couple that are still up in the air. There have been rumblings the staff has parted ways with DB Nilijah Ballew, although there is nothing official. WR T.J. Foster has some academic issues that could force him to go the JUCO route. If you follow recruiting, you know that things change daily, if not hourly, but we’ll keep you posted.
