On this episode of LSL, the guys talk to FOX Sports College Football Insider Bruce Feldman and 247Sports’ National College Football Recruiting Analyst JC Shurburtt. The guys also discussed the win over Pitt and what lies ahead for the basketball team. Since the transition to the 93.9 FM signal is still ongoing, we are not able to podcast as of yet. Having said that, here’s a recap of the show.
-His take on the Petrino grayshirt situation was that the backlash was because it was Petrino. He said that since Saban and Malzhan didn’t have the past that Petrino had, they didn’t get the backlash for doing the same thing.
-His review of Louisville’s past season was commensurate with what he thought would happen. He was surprised about the Belk Bowl blowout, but praised the job Petrino and staff did while losing so many play makers on offense throughout the year.
-He ranked the ACC last among the power conferences, saying they ranked just below the Big 12.
-He said it wouldn’t surprise him to see UofL win the ACC within 5 years and credited Petrino’s coaching ability with the reason why that can happen.
-In his overview of Petrino’s 2015 class, he said he really liked it and that he would rank it 15 or 20 spots higher than the team’s current national ranking and “3rd or 4th” in the ACC. Additionally, he said he would take this UofL class over Miami’s, UNC’s, NC State’s, and Virginia Tech’s.
-Based on his contacts in the industry, he stated that Devonte Fields was a good kid other than his huge mistake he made. His previous coaches all genuinely liked him. He thought that he will be a game changer and dominate on defense.
-He raved about UofL signee QB Lamar Jackson, comparing him to Auburn’s Nick Marshall, but with a better arm.
-JC also mentioned that LB Amonte Caban will likely be a breakout player. He expects Louisville to continue to target the state of Alabama for top prospects.
-He explained how grayshirting is a part of the recruiting process and thought that Petrino was unfairly vilified for it because most causal fans don’t know what it really is. Said that some coaches have waited until days before fall camp to extend grayshirt offers.
