Heading into Wednesday night, there are 10 games remaining in the ACC regular season.  There are 1,024 different combinations of ways those 10 games could turn out.  Fortunately, only 8 of the 10 games will impact Louisville’s seeding in the ACC Tournament.  The Wake Forest-Boston College game is completely meaningless for anyone’s seed, including those two teams.  They are already locked into the 11 and 12 seeds, respectively.  The Duke-Wake Forest game cannot impact anyone’s seed other than Duke and Notre Dame.

With only 8 games that matter as far as Louisville’s seed is concerned, that gets us down to 256 combinations of outcomes.  Since many of those combinations would result in the same seed for Louisville, we can boil it all down to 12 combinations of outcomes to determine Louisville’s fate.

Louisville’s seed in the 14-team ACC Tournament bracket will be either 3, 4, or 5.  The 3 and 4 seeds will earn a double bye into the quarterfinals to be played Thursday, March 12, in Greensboro.  The 5 seed gets a single bye and plays its first game on Wednesday, March 11.

Below are the results needed for Louisville to receive each possible seed.  The games that don’t involve Louisville, Notre Dame, or North Carolina can impact Louisville’s seed because of the tiebreaker procedures.  Since Louisville and North Carolina split their two regular season games, any 2-way tie between them would be broken by comparing their winning percentages against each team, or group of tied teams, in the conference starting from the top of the final standings and going to the bottom.  It helps Louisville for the teams they beat to be higher in the final standings than the teams that beat them and for the teams that beat North Carolina to be higher than the teams that lost to North Carolina.
