With news coming out this week that the UK game will be moved to the last game of the season, UofL is in need of a home opener that will generate some buzz. What better way to do than to schedule the inaugural ACC game as the first home game of the season. Louisville’s new league is doing just that this year as Florida State will be traveling to Pittsburgh to take on the Panthers on Labor Day. UofL’s ACC home opponents in the 2014 season will be Florida State, Miami, NC State, and Wake Forest. Obviously FSU and Miami would get the fans the most jacked, but NC State would be a solid opening game opponent as well. FSU is scheduled to play Oklahoma State in Dallas on the opening weekend, so Miami could be a possibility with the Canes having the August 30th date open.
According to next year’s schedules, NC State has an open date on September 6th, but that would mean UofL having an off-week on Week 1. The Demon Deacons of Wake Forest have an opening on the 6th as well, but will open their season the week before on the road at Louisiana Monroe. Again, it all falls back to Miami being available to play the Cards – in Louisville – to start the season off with a bang. Ranked in some publications’ Top 25 polls this year, the Canes are a virtual lock to start 2014 as a nationally ranked team. UofL will play Miami at home next year, but the date remains unknown. However, it makes too much sense to pit the Cards and Canes together in a Labor Day showdown.
