Louisville football’s recipe for success has been recruiting Florida and winning games.  A win against Miami  in the Russell Athletic Bowl would be another feather in the cap of the Cards as far as making noise in Florida.  Current Cards from Florida include Bridgewater, Rogers, Copeland, Gaines; the list goes on and on.  In all, there are 39 players from the Sunshine state on the roster.  However, the Cards have gotten Florida kids’ attention by beating the major powers.  Florida State in 2002, Miami in 2006, and Florida in 2013.  Those wins have propelled UofL’s program in the minds of coaches and players down south.  Also, when the Cards have played there, they’ve won more than they’ve lost.  Since 2002, here’s how Louisville has fared against teams from Florida and in that state:

2002

#4 Florida State – W, 26-20 in OT

2003

@South Florida – L, 31-28 in OT

2004

@#3 Miami – L, 41-38

South Florida – W, 31-8

Orange Bowl (Miami, FL) vs. #12 Wake Forest – W, 24-13

2007

2008

#14 South Florida – W, 24-20

2009

@South Florida – L, 34-22

2010

South Florida – L, 24-21 in OT

Beef O’ Brady’s Bowl (St. Petersburg, FL) vs. Southern Miss – W, 31-28

2011

FIU – L, 24-17

@South Florida – W, 34-24

2012

FIU – W, 28-21

South Florida – W, 27-25

2013

FIU – W, 72-0

Russell Athletic Bowl (Orlando, FL) vs. Miami

Going into the tilt against the Hurricanes, the Cards are 13-9 against teams from Florida and playing in the Sunshine state.  The pipeline of talent will continue into the near future as UofL already has eight verbal commitments from Florida in their 2014 recruiting class.
