Last week multiple outlets reported that after his visit to Louisville, former Virginia Tech player Dorian Finney-Smith was likely Rick Pitino’s to lose. After leaving the Ville he took an unceremonious visit to Iowa State and was rumored to also be heading to Austin at some point for an unofficial visit to Texas. But last night word leaked out that Finney-Smith has altered those plans and will now visit Memphis later today. Josh Pastner is apparently making a late push and the 6-7 wing is listening. According to John Martin of the Memphis Commercial Appeal, his visit will come on the heels of another highly touted freshman transfer and former Louisville recruit, Rodney Hood. The two essentially play the same position, so the likelihood of both committing to the Tigers seems rather unlikely. Fact of the mattter is, with Mike Marra set to graduate and the looming possibility of Wayne Blackshear having a breakout season and declaring for the draft early, there would be plenty of playing time at Louisville for Finney-Smith in 2013-2014. He could sit out a year and practice with what should be a national championship contending team, something that can’t be said for Memphis, Texas and definitely not Iowa State.
We’ll keep an eye on this as it progresses.
