According to our friend Charlie Springer over at U of L Card Game, the Charlie Strong Maker’s Mark bottle will be available for purchase on July 23rd, pushed back a bit from its original July 20th planned release. It is probably a good thing, because a Charlie Strong Maker’s Mark release on a Friday night would potentially be either mass chaos or the greatest party in the history of the
planet Earth city of Louisville (or both). According to Springer, they will be available to about 8,500 Louisville fans at select locations, so if you want the manliest bourbon bottle in the history of mankind, keep up with liquor stores near you.
Some people out there seem to think this is a bit absurd for a coach with a 14-12 record in two seasons and seem to wonder why he deserves this. My question to those people: really? I mean…REALLY? You need a reason? Okay, try this on for size. The football program he inherited was left by the previous “coaching” staff in such shambles, the team barely could be thought of as a division 1 quality program, let alone a BCS quality program. We were losing recruits to schools like Georgia Southern and our recruiting had been focused on Junior College transfers and recruits with few D-1 offers. It was bad. Bad to the point that arguably the best high school recruit Kragthorpe ever landed, Mike Privott, could not crack the LB rotation and just transferred to Norfolk St. Bad to the point that coaching that program to a 14-12 record in two seasons is nothing short of a miracle. He took the recruits that he was left with and turned them into a bowl winning team. Despite having nothing to offer based on the Kragthorpe tenure, he managed to land huge recruiting classes, including winning recruiting battles for recruits over schools like Florida, Ohio State, Alabama, and others. It could be argued (easily) that Charlie Strong rescued the University of Louisville program and saved us from obscurity. The man deserves a little recognition, wouldn’t you say?
For those that don’t get it, you’re not paying close enough attention. Charlie Strong was just born awesome. This is a must-get for any U of L fan and would be a fantastic gift as well. Go out on the 23rd and buy one.
