So…remember when I posted the other day how there seemed to be a trend in Pitino’s recruiting, in that he was targeting defensive-minded, offensively raw, foreign born centers who were still learning the game and had a huge amount of untapped potential? Well…
Another IMG big man commits: 6-10 F/C Mangok Mathiang inks with

This is about as under the radar as it gets. Scout lists the 6-10, 205 big man as a 3-star recruit and there is next to no information on the kid. Rivals does not even have a recruit page for him (unless he is under a different name). It appears that Illinois also had interest as well. Here is the main information I could find on the kid for those of you interested (it is as basic as basic can get). I would not necessarily call this a “head scratcher,” but it is certainly surprising. I was certain that if we were to add another player for 2012, it would be a guard, but it looks like Pitino believes he found a diamond in the rough and decided to bolster the frontcourt depth. Meet your newest Cardinal. Welcome to Louisville, Mangok! We apologize in advance for every announcer and fan who butchers your name for the next four years.

I welcome him to Louisville, but was this worth it? Talk about a stealth mode operation….
I have to believe that Coach must have seen a lot of Gorgui in him, because otherwise I don't see him taking a player of this level. I thought we were supposed to be recruiting at a higher level but if he is anything like Gorgui, I am beyond excited to have him.
WILL HE PLAY THIS YEAR?
if he reclassifies successfully, yes.
