If you haven’t heard by now, Rick Pitino and his staff are assembling some major talent for what looks like a huge recruiting weekend. We’ve learned that Louisville plans to have Shabazz Muhammad (#1 ranked small forward – 2012), Winston Shepard (#14 ranked small forward – 2012), and Negus Webster-Chan (#9 ranked smal forward – 2012, already committed to U of L) on campus for the huge white-out game against Pitt on Sunday. This is incredible news as, Muhammad especially, has been one of – if not THE – #1 target for Louisville’s 2012 class. An explosive wing with an incredibly versatile game, Muhammad has already visited Louisville once this season, as he came in for the Marshall game back in December. However, safe to say, he didn’t get the full Yum! Center experience. With a top 5 team lurking and a white-out planned, the game should be a completely different experience.
Shepard is an AAU teammate of Muhammad’s and has recently narrowed his list of favorites down to ten. Louisville made the cut and perhaps he sees himself as the next wing player to blossom under the tutelage of Rick Pitino. As for Webster-Chan, since the Cards already have him in the fold, he can be a key recruiter this weekend in his own right. Both he and Rodney Purvis (Louisville’s other 2012 commit) have been touting the school on twitter a lot lately and are trying to persuade some of their AAU buddies to take a hard look at Louisville. It seems to be paying off, especially since most people thought Shabazz’s recruitment had turned into a two-team race between Duke and UK.
