On last night’s show, a caller brought up a signee who didn’t bring a lot of drama with him on NSD, Amonte Caban. What he does bring though, is tenacity on the field. The 6’2, 210 lb. 4-star prospect from Alabama amassed 140 tackles during his senior year and figures to compete for playing time right away. An article from last May made the argument that he was the best LB in Alabama.
The 6-foot-2, 210-pound linebacker is a big, quick vicious hitter. Caban is the type of player that delivers a bruise every time he lays a hit on an opposing ball carrier. The three-star prospect, according to 247Composite, can easily make an argument as the best overall linebacker in the state of Alabama.
“He is extremely athletic,” Smiths Station coach Jason Dukes said. “He’s the kind of kid who can cover from sideline-to-sideline. He’s physical and explosive on every play.”
Colleges have certainly taken notice.
Since early March, Caban has been one of the hottest recruits in Alabama. He is up to 14 scholarship offers, including three from the Southeastern Conference. South Carolina, Kentucky, Clemson and Cincinnati have all offered him this spring. Alabama, Georgia and Ole Miss have stopped by to see him, but haven’t offered yet.
The team to beat for Caban, though, continues to be Mississippi State. The Bulldogs were the first SEC school to offer the 6-foot-2, 210-pound linebacker and that has resonated well with him.
