The nation’s best high school recruit – regardless of class – is on the UofL campus today and will take an unofficial visit to check out Rick Pitino’s program. Thon Maker, the incredibly skilled 7-foot forward who’s been stirring up a buzz in the high school world for over a year now, is the unanimous #1 ranked player in the 2016 class according to all four of the major scouting services. Maker, who now lives in Ontario, Canada, but is originally from Sudan (and came to America by way of Australia) has been in Kentucky for 5 days now after his team, Orangeville Prep, participated in the Bluegrass Showcase this past weekend in Lexington. That team is also slated to play in this weekend’s star-studded Marshall County Hoopsfest in Benton, Ky. Maker also took an unofficial visit to Kentucky on Sunday before traveling to Louisville last night. He’ll reportedly attend tonight’s huge showdown with Ohio State along with his coach and a few teammates.
Maker still has a long list of suitors but has recently expressed public interest in Louisville, Kentucky, Kansas, Missouri, Indiana, Duke, Arizona and Georgetown. If you haven’t already, do yourself a favor and check out these highlights. He’s like a hybrid of a young Kevin Garnett and Kevin Durant.
